TRENDS OF 2012
New Year is all about change. As we de-clutter ourwardrobe and open space for new pieces, let’s take a quick look on some of thefashion trends that shaped 2012.
Color-blocking
Bold, solid-color pieces made a quite a buzz amongfashionistas at the early part of the year. Guided by the “3-colors max” rule(so as to avoid the Rainbow Brite look), this balanced mix of traffic lightcolors and bold hues (citrus yellow, cool blue, and bright pink) streamlinedwardrobe staples and added glam to simple dressing by tossing a few colors overa dress or a simple top or bottom.
Sports Luxe
From London and back, the spirit of the 2012 Olympicstrickled down into our own wardrobe as sportswear made a strong presence in thesecond quarter. Who can ever forget the It Girls on the cover of preview, dressed in iconic pin up shorts and airy sleeveless top? This style trend alsohit fashion home run with tailored and polished versions of the baseballjacket, shoulder coats, waffle knit, and sweat pants.
Super Bold Prints
Vibrant, swirling, styled-head-to-toe patterns also made a bold statement. Thistrend shaped the face of power dressing and earned its right in the fashionscene, calling attention to the visually arresting designs of oversize florals,mirror-like geometric shapes, and paisley and parrot prints.
Orange hue happy?
Who could ever resist the happy vibe of orange andtangerine? Not only do these add a splash of cheer, but they also give everyensemble character and an edgier feel.
Pink is the color
While this is easily the fool-proof solution to everywoman’s wardrobe dilemma, a small but noticeable shift in its form and usechanged the look of smart dressing. We give this shade its well-deservedmanicured-nail-applause for its versatility as office appropriate separatessuch as blazer, skirt, and shorts. Talk about a totally new set of cute andfeminine outfits!
Pastel and Candy Shades
Sweet sorbet shades and candy hues give off a low-key,ladylike vibe to women’s wear as seen in Louis Vuitton’s Spring/SummerCollection of biker-and tweed jackets, dresses accessorized with detachablelace collars and oversized buttons, anglaise tops, and cellophane skirts.
MetallicBasics
Shine and luster took a luminous spin as metallicschanged the night scene with an over-all neo-disco feel.
Peplum
It’s the most feminine style that sashayed in the year2012. The short flared ruffle around the waist defines this season’s bestselling peplum skirts, dresses, and tops. This trend transcends from minimalistand romantic to sexy as it gives an illusion of a small waist.
